Mugabe’s party Zanu-PF removes him as Leader, vows to die and goes on hunger strike for 2 days

Following his refusal to step down after a Military takeover last week, Zimbabwe’s Zanu-PF has officially removed President Robert Mugabe and his wife, Grace as leader of the party and head of the party’s women’s league respectively. This is coming after several protests in Zimbabwe, calling for his resignation as President of the Country.

Embattled Mugabe has however been replaced with his sacked Vice President Emerson Mnangagwa, and is expected to be impeached after the parliament reconvenes this Tuesday following a week-long suspension; even with his protest that the takeover is illegal and he should be allowed to remain president until the elections next year.

Guardian reports that the 93-year-old has not accepted any food since Saturday, as he continues to be held under house arrest at his Blue Roof mansion. Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao said on Saturday that Mr Mugabe was ‘willing to die for what is correct’.
